Sound of Music Auditions
Audition Dates: December 9 / 4pm – 6:30pm
We are teaming up with UWG’s Theatre Department on the musical, The Sound of Music. The following roles will be cast from the community. Characters could be played by someone of a similar age range as the approximate character age listed. For example, Kurt may be played by someone aged 8 to 12, as long as he is able to sing in falsetto.
- Liesl von Trapp (mezzo, dance) The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.
- Friedrich von Trapp Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family. Roughly around age 14.
- Louisa von Trapp Rebellious attitude. Roughly around age 13.
- Kurt von Trapp (falsetto) Gentle and mischievous. Roughly around age 10.
- Brigitta von Trapp Smart, reads a lot. Roughly around age 9.
- Marta von Trapp Very sweet and gentle. Roughly around age 7.
- Gretl von Trapp Must have the cute factor. Roughly around age 6.
Audition Prep
The auditions are cold read. Actors will be asked to read lines while rehearsing them at the auditions. All actors will perform the same song, DoReMi. Youth will begin singing at measure 41 on page 49 and continue through the top of page 53, ending with the lyrics, “bring us back to do.”
Rehearsals
Rehearsals will begin in early March, Monday-Friday from 6:30pm – 10pm. The director will consider younger actors’ schedules when determining rehearsal times, however, closer to the performance and loading into the theater will require some late nights.
Performances will be April 24-27.

This Tony Award-winning musical offers principal roles for four females and six males and a
large ensemble. Music for the performance is mostly folk and bluegrass. Inspired by a true story, featuring a score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickwell, Bright STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set in the American South in the 1920s and ‘40s.

Young Frankenstein

A wickedly inspired re-imaging of the Frankenstein story based on Mel Brooks’ classic film. Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family’s estate. With the help of hunchbacked sidekick Igor and lab assistant Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. The monster musical is incredibly funny with memorable tunes, great choreography and roles for eight principals and a large ensemble. Directed by Lisa Bridwell.
